Spider 53 and weekend fun

I recently found a very cool book in our library about graffiti art. It got me thinking how I could get the feel of spray paint onto fabric but not make the fabric stiff because I still want to stitch into it. So over the weekend, the sun was out so I made up some dye and put it in a pressurised garden sprayer that I use to spray my grapes if they get mildew. I taped my fabric onto the drive and got spraying. My friend who lives across the road thought I was very carefully cleaning my drive until I pegged the fabric up to dry. I now have dye marks on the drive but I am certain they will wash off! The effect was great, I think I need a smaller sprayer or bigger fabric as it was quite hard to control. But I washed the pieces and they look pretty good. I think I will just quilt them like a whole cloth quilt.

Spider 50/100

Wow, I can't believe we are half way through the 100 Days project. This is spider number 50. So it's down hill from now on!

Also, I am part of a quilt show on Aug 10th called Road to Colour. It is a one day quilt show at Waimauku school, proceeds will go to Muriwai Surf club. My Kiss quilt will be on show along with lots of really colourful amazing quilts made by local quilters. If you are in the area pop along and have a look. We are open 10- 5.

The Taupo Spiders

I am back from my teaching week in Taupo. It went really well, 1200 women were in Taupo at the NZ Quilting Symposium. Not sure what the locals thought!

I met some really cool women, had heaps of fun and got paid, how good can life get!

I stitched a spider every day, one really late at night after the Gala dinner but I really wanted to stick with stitching every day.

Off to Taupo and spider 41/100

So glad I am not flying to Taupo, it would cost me lots for excess baggage. I am off teaching for a week at the NZ Quilters Symposium. I will be stitching spiders away from home so I will up-load the family of Taupo spiders when I get back, next Weds.

Folding Fat Quarters and spider 38/100

I had an enjoyable evening folding fat quarters for All Things Patchwork to take to Taupo next week. The shop is having a stand in the merchants mall at the Quilt Symposium which entails cutting and folding I don't know how many fat quarters, loading them into cars and unpacking them when we get there. The colours are just fantastic, Cheryl who owns the shop is very kind and doesn't make in fold fabric I don't like!

And here is today's spider, number 38. The frame is starting to look pretty full, I will need to roll out the next section of fabric soon. I am starting to have to really think about each one now, I may have to start repeating the stitches in different colours soon.

Sun Bleached or Kissed

Spider 26/100

I have finished my piece an exhibition later in the year called Yes its Yellow. The plan was to call it Sun Bleached but I might change that to Sun Kissed, that title seems to suit it better.

I used old gold threads from my stash so the hair has lots of different shades of gold. It was fun doing goldwork again, I haven't done any for a while.

a weekend of spiders

I was away teaching for the weekend so Saturday and Sunday spiders were stitched away from the main piece. I then cut them out and stitched them on when I returned home. I was teaching Blackwork and Silk Shading so that's why we now have a Blackwork and a silk shaded spider.
