I am 1/5 of the way to my 100 days. My fabric is looking pretty good. I am not sure I would want all these spiders to come to life in the studio!

Mermaid and spider

I have just finished this mermaid doll. I had the idea while I was making my last quilt from the Tula Pink Salt water fabric, so the leftover fabric along with some other scraps went to make a new cloth doll. This week I need to write up the pattern so it is ready to go on sale for the Quilting Symposium in July.

spiders and chairs

Spider 11/100

Sunday was such a wet day the only thing to do was sew. I had plans to recover the cushions on this chair for ages. I used leftover fabric from a couple of skirts I had made, so the fabric cost nothing. I got the chair from our local junk shop. It looks so much better, cheers up a rainy day.

spider 10/100

Spider 10/100

This spider was stitched using spider silk. I pulled apart the abandoned web from the Golden Orb web that was living in the garden. It was so strong I had no problem sewing with it.

spider 8 and 9

Spider 8

Spider 9

Well I have done the first week of the 100 days. It is taking longer the think of how to stitch the spiders so we will see how next week goes. Still having fun with it so that's a good sign.

spider 7/100

Spider 7/100. Pink but a little bit scary, think its the long thin legs. Makes me think it could run pretty fast. I wonder when I will start giving them names!

If this is the 1st time you have looked at this blog, I am at the start of a 100 day project. I am stitching a spider every day for 100 days, along side 100's of others doing other small creative acts for 100 days. We are on day 7! will I still be excited on day 67?

Spider number 6. Another scary one!

spider 5/100

Spider 5/100

I have started to notice that the size, colour and type of stitch used for each of my spiders seems to make them cute or scary. I find that very interesting, I wonder if I will start to stitch non-scary spiders! over the next 95 we will see.

Spider 4/100

Spider 4/100. French knots and bullion knot legs. A little girl on my walking school bus told me it should be purple today.

A touch of Gold

Spider 3/100

My yellow head is starting to get hair. Its great to be doing some Goldwork again. I am just using up scraps of gold that I have had floating around so he will have various textures and shades of gold through his hair, just like when the sun bleaches hair.

spider, day 2

Spider number 2, on the whole piece it looks like this one is about to eat spider number 1.

1st day of 100 days

Today is the 1st day of the 100 days project. I have signed up along with 100's of other people to do a small creative act each day for the next 100 days. We all post our daily creation on the website www.100daysproject.co.nz and I will post mine here as well.

I have decided to stitch a spider everyday for the next 100 days. I am sure you can guess where the inspiration for this came from! It needs to be fast and small. I have tacked a grid onto my background fabric and I will just fill each space with a spider, however I can think of stitching one each day. Hopefully I will not repeat myself during the 100 spiders!

In case you needed a real spider update, the golden orb web has disappeared, not sure where. It is the winter here now so she may have gone to hide somewhere away from the cold and will appear again in the summer, who knows! she was great to have while she was here and by mid September I will have 100 stitched spiders to remember her.

Fabric flowers and beer

I had some interesting bottles that needed something extra. So I spent a couple of hours making fabric flowers for them. A new arrangement for the centre of our table.

'Watching' is off to the USA

My big quilt ' Watching' has got into the quilt show in Houston, USA. The show is in November, it is the same show that Kiss went to a couple of years ago. Kit is already planning the teaching trip! maybe one day I will be asked to teach over there, have to get that book written!
