Wrist Warmers finished

Just as the weather is getting colder here I have finished my wrist warmers, I love them and I have worn them pretty much everyday since I finished them. I still have heaps of wool left so I think I am going to knit a matching scarf. It would make a wonderful jumper but not sure I am up to knitting a jumper in such fine wool, think I would be still knitting it in 5 years time!

Canteen hanging finished

I have just finished my Canteen wall hanging, I quilted around the hand prints and just a small amount on the face. I am really pleased so I will pack that up and post it to the organisers in the next week or two. The closing date is not till August but now it is finished I may as well send it off then I know I have done it.

Top Stitching Finished

The top stitching on my face is now finished. Next step will be to take it off the frame and quilt it. I am going to work rows of quilting around the hand prints. Should be finished next week sometime.

Last night I was guest speaker at the Kumeu Small Landowners group. It was great. They were such a nice, fun group of people and I even learnt that sometimes sheep get their eyelashes in their eyes and you have to help them get it out. I love it when you learn random bits of info during your day.

Fabric down onto top stitching

Another post on my step by step piece for CanTeen. The fabric is all stitched down now and I am now starting the top stitching. The top stitching blends the fabric pieces together slightly and firms up the edges of lips and eyes etc.

I cut out 3 sets of lips before I decided on green, I always find lips hard!

This is the back view, the back is sometimes as cool as the front.

another challenge

I don't usually stitch at night, I tend to knit or cut our fabric instead. So last night I started to cut out the pieces for my next colour quarterly challenge. The narrow strips of blue are the challenge fabric. I am going to have small bright orange blocks in the centre of the quilt and darker orange almost brown as larger blocks on the outer edges of the quilt. That's the plan, we will see how it looks!

New piece step by step

When I was teaching at the quilt symposium in Jan I signed up to take part in the CanTeen Bandanna Challenge. CanTeen is a support organisation for teenagers living with cancer, The challenge is a fundraiser for this great group of people.
We could choose a bandanna and then create a small quilt which will go on show and be sold.
I thought it would be a fun project to take pictures along the way and post the stages of creating this piece on the blog, so here goes, lets hope I remember to take the pictures!
I am going to applique a face on top of the hands, it is about the many hands that are involved with the care of sick people. I think it will be called Hands of Care.

Original Bandanna, cut and stitched to calico

Fabrics to apply on top, Kaffe and Tula of course!

Design of face to be applied.

eyes on first

Face ready to be cut out

Main fabric on face on, highlights, nose, eyebrows and lips go on top.

Knitting bag finished

I finished my knitting bag over the weekend. I decided not to put handles on as they would fall down and cover my tattooed men so I just put a couple of ties on the inside to keep it closed, at least now my knitting will be tidy and not just in a pile on the coffee table! The fabric I used as  lining is from a range called Wish. It has hand written wishes all over it in the branches of a tree, I love it.

Knitting

This is the amazing wool that I found at Woolfest last weekend, it is really fine which I have never knitted with before and I love it.2.25mm needles! One of my wrist warmers will be green - purple and the other one will be purple - yellow. I went to one of my friends the other night for a wine and took my knitting, perfect night drinking wine, talking and knitting. If everyone did that once in a while I am certain the world would be a better place.
