Needlepoint finished

I have finished my first needlepoint kit sample. I tracked it out on a piece of wood yesterday to stretch it back to being a square. Even if you work on a frame that's really tight, canvas will always go out a bit. While I was doing this I was thinking about a lovely, slightly crazy lady that taught me how while I was at the Royal School of Needlework. Sadly she is no longer with us but whenever I make a cushion or stretch a canvas she pops into my mind.

Today's job, along with baking a Friendship cake for school, is to make this canvas up into a cushion.

Virtual Self

I have finished my Virtual Self piece. It looks just how I wanted it to. As always one piece of work has started a journey of designs around the same topic so I will see where this leads too. I still have some fabric left from the compost dying experiment so I may do another one with that.

Off to Colour Quarterly today with my unfinished challenge. You would think when you have 3 months to do something I would get it finished but alas no. maybe next time!

Happy Valentines Day

I just love Valentines Day. The more abstract hearts were done by my son.

New Face

I have just started a new face made from fabric I dyed in the compost heap. I have been thinking about doing this for a while and finally the ideas came together in my head and I started. I am really pleased with how it is looking. I am going to stitch words up the side.

The piece is called Virtual Self, and is about how so many people load so much about their lives onto the Internet that I am sure one day those virtual selves will become real!

Wool has arrived

The wool has arrived for me to make up my needlepoint designs. The colours are just fantastic.
I am going to start with the flowers and squares design.

Exhibition opens

The Contemporary Blackwork exhibition in the US opens today. It is being held at the American embroiderers guilds head quarters in Louisville, Kentucky. I am planning another piece of blackwork for an exhibition next year. It takes so long I will have to start soon!
