slightly crazy but excited

Some quilting friends and I have just started on a hand piecing project. We all got very excited by this book and have now started on the quilt on the cover. Crazy but so excited, the pieces are tiny but you can fussy cut the fabric. I have lots of skulls planned with some really bright splashes of colour.

I am teaching away a lot so needed something I could put in my bag to do while I am away from home. I get all the pieces sorted and then I just have to take needle and thread and stitch them together while I am away or at the airport. I use this amazing temporary fabric glue to stick the fabric to the card pieces, no more tacking, amazing. Takes me longer to decide what fabric to use then it will to stitch it all together. 4 of us are doing it so it will be interesting to see how different our quilts look when they are finished, in about 20 years!!!!

Steam punk necklace

All Things Patchwork has just got in some crystal skull beads, so cool I had to have some.
I have attached them to an old pearl necklace that belonged to my Nan so I now have a skull/pearl necklace, Not sure my Nan would have approved! I made Kit a new earing at the same time.

Dress a girl

We had another Dress a girl day at school today. I forgot my camera so this is the picture from last time but we made 21 dresses today with only 6 of us sewing and some for only part of the day.
The dresses this time are going to Mozambique along with underwear for the girls too. Such a fun day we are already planning one for next term, may even try for 2 if school will let us! It is so good for the school children to see people sewing, so many have no idea what we are doing or why!

Guest Artist

I have just been booked to be a guest artist at the Craft and Quilt Fair in Hamilton from Aug. 7 - 10.
I had a email a few weeks ago and thought they were talking about next year but when I spoke to them they were talking about this year!
I will be demonstrating and have a display of work, 4m x 3m so I have to plan what I am taking and what I will be stitching. I love demonstrating but you do need something that you are just stitching and all the design decisions have been made. That way you can talk and stitch at the same time.

I also have a piece of work on the embroiderers guild stand at the same show. I will show you a detail but I will not post the whole thing until the exhibition has been seen. The exhibition will all be black, white and grey. Can't wait to see how it looks.

The piece is blackwork but stitched in white on black linen instead of black thread on cream linen. As you can see it is a face, can't seem to do anything else!

skull

This piece was a commission I did for Brandon Mably, the studio manger for Kaffe Fassett and designer in his own right. It was inspired by another piece I had worked for an exhibition a few years ago. Its amazing how different it looks in different colours and with a patterned background.

100 days of faces

I have just signed up to take part in the 100 days project again. No more spiders this year but I will be creating 100 two inch square faces. These faces will be fabric, thread, pencil, paper and anything else I come across that's cool! I will be putting the faces here and on the 100 day site. The whole thing starts on July 11th, just before I go away teaching for a week so that will be a hard start! All good for my creative brain.
